Experimental Final

Ok, so let's back track for a sec. Just to let all you guys out there know, this guy, "Erfan" isn't random. He's an Iranian rapper, who is fairly well established and is based in San Francisco I believe. He was contacted by my friend, Maryam (Jojo), and was informed about my blog. Once he saw it, he contacted me to make his new album cover and other visuals. I am honored to take on this job, its probably one of the biggest, if not, the biggest I've ever been presented with. Thank you to Maryam, and Erfan both. This is a experimental final as the name so obviously suggests. I merely got carried away with the idea. This more than likely will not be used, but nevertheless I found it to at least look interesting.

Intermission (OrganTrain) The Series?

So I'm trying to conduct a colab with a fellow artist, but we're hitting some road blocks technically. As a result, ofcourse, I have to make up alternatives along the way. This is just some cover idea I came up with after a long day at school. Enjoy. Also thanks, to Jodi for being a great model, and Kat for being a great photographer. We'll make it work in the end.

Intermission (ComicCon: Slowed Momentum)

I feel like my art feet are dragging.

Intermission 2 (ComicCon)

O.K. I know, I'm working on a lot art crap at once (not to mention learning piano, reading music, and all that jazz). But here's another project for you to take a gander at. Its a very short comic/self portrait that will depict a conversation on what drives a "hero" to do what it is heroes do. I sure it'll be short, sweet, and to the point.

Intermission (OrganTrain)

This is a side project with the sole purpose of keeping me sane while I try to recreate my portfolio from the ground up (i.e. my stay in the TimeChamber). Its going to be much more expansive, seeing as I plan to add a different organ everyday. Clearly I've started with the heart. This is the part when Gohan gets a hair cut and a meal from Goku.

Part 3

I think this about at the part when Gohan flashes into Super Sayian after thinking about Freiza...

Part 2

I've planned to show you step-by-step, how my training is going in the Hyperbolic TimeChamber. I've got it set on about 2 days; all you true fans out there know what that means :)

Took You Long Enough

I've finally reached my 100th post. This is just another experiment, I'm trying to push the limits of the materials given. More to come.

Back For Blood

So this is it. My return to the net with art. This is a poster for the play "The Crucible". I'll admit that the relevance is questionable, and yes I did read the play. But speaking in my own defense, this picture was merely an experiment.
I hope you guys like it. More to come soon. Stay frosty.

Public Service Announcement

"ArtScratching" is being discontinued until further notice due to recent acts of theft. With that being said, the 3-4 projects that are still underway will be withheld from the public eye until said threat to thought is no longer present. Thank you for your understanding. It is our sincere hope here at ArtScratching that we can continue to offer your eyes beautiful images in the near future. Once again, thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Nolan Clarke DEPARTMENT HEAD

New Soup

Much has occured since my last post, so I'm going to have run a couple of extra miles to get everything up to speed. Since I'm Korea at the moment, making art as regrettably become secondary. But nevertheless when I find myself in deeper thought than usual, I try to busy my hands. This is a product of that exercise.

Old Soup

I was going through some old files from the "fro-era", and this is one of the things I found. Its an old self portrait from middle school that seems to be inspired by Hokusai. to be honest this triggered a lot of memories; like when an older you finds a toy you hid from yourself for safe keeping on rainy Sunday. Or like when an old man hears a song of one sweet summer night's fling back in his 'glory days'. Nostalgia.

Spinal Tap

To make a long story short, I'm trying to do a series of these 'back pieces' on different girls. I think there is an air of piquing curiosity in this project. Also I feel it has its own risque elements that make each picture a little more captivating than others that I have previously created. This is due to the fact that the images were not edited, and the drawings on the girls' backs are real. I did them by hand, all with a black Sharpie marker. Does knowing the process pique the interest?

If 6 Was 9, and Paint Was Lead

This is what I have been doing all those times when I have slipped away from the hangouts and returned to the lair. Summary: I went up to D.C. and brought along a friend (it was her first time out of the state). We ventured to a few different parts of the city, starting in Columbia Heights and eventually finding ourselves in Georgetown. Once there, I came across this blown up photo mounted on to wood sitting outside of one of the high-end stores. Being the person that I am, I took upon myself to take it with us; Mind you, I had to make it all the way back to Columbia Heights from Georgetown, lugging this wooden rectangle for the whole trip; Metro to Metro. And so here she is in Richmond, and I laying some nice paints on her. Stay tuned for the finished product.

Do Overs & Do Don'ts

Since this image wasnt used for the Gallery5 poster, I decided to go ahead and venture on with it. I want to fill it up with all original characters so the final might take awhile to produce, since instead of sort of generalizing each character used, I actually take the time to develop them; coming up with atleast 2 sketches per character. I hope the extra works provides better quality in the finished product. When it hits the web, you be the judge.

Wait, Wait...Can I Get A Mulligan?

And here it is: what happens everytime I make a poster for something; I have to take a Mulligan. So this is the redesigned version of the Gallery5 event poster. This one is obviously a little more conventional than my previous design. And the customers' always right, yeah? I'm actually pretty happy with this turn of events however. It made me create something out of my own norm. Enjoy.

Digga Hits the Web Through the LPRC

Through this year I've been doing some design work for Gallery 5's library (The Lucent Phoenix Resource Center), and its looking like there have been fruits of the labor. I was slow about actually posting this on my blog, considering that the photo has been on the web for a couple of months, but basically I designed the library's current logo and t-shirts. I feel that I look rather dashing in the shirt. But seriously, if you want to know more about the library itself, check out that address that follows.

Shirtemplates

This is a rough idea of what I would want the SassySailor tee's to look like.
But there still is the obstacle of making them. In time. In time...

Baltimore Blues

So, the story of SassySailor continues, and in what better place than Baltimore Harbor. As I keep coming up with different variations for this design, I feel that it could easily become something of substantial marketability.

The only problem is making the product that I see it as, and the quality that I would want it to be. Obstacles...

Nevertheless try not to miss an episode in the developmental process.

And We Keep It Moving (3's Perfect Company)

"We can't sell spray paint...err....spray cans to minors..." That's what the bag man told us at the Walmart on this rainy Wednesday night to Thursday early morning.
Nevertheless the adventure was good, stories were shared and laughs were regularly present. This project is probably the most relaxing one yet. I have to give a special thanks to Miss Yohai and Miss Dimitri for keeping the process fresh this time around.

Save the Green Planet!

We're all allowed one or two pictures about a greener planet. This is my first. You should read into it. Then go plant a tree, but in a more productive manner. Don't be one of those people who like to complain about the enviroment, go plant a tree, and feel like they have made one quarter of the world smog-free.

Wackness Deferred

I've decided to write a book about different ISC's (Imaginary Snow Children) that I run into; giving them each their own unique illustration to portray their stories and thoughts. A new beginning? Imaginary Snow Children are those who have retained the attributes from their purest memories, which are most commonly associated with those of being a child-hence the name. The book will be about them. Keep an eye out for some pages that I'll post.

Sassy for Sailors

I came up with this design lying on my back and thinking about if seagulls could talk what would they say to a person on the beach. Then my mind wandered and I thought about beach babes and tan lines; you know, teenage boy stuff.

W.A.F.O.Y (WallArtForOliviaYohai)

A friend of mine once asked me to paint on her bedroom wall. A few short weeks later after this humble Algebra II class request, I found myself in said bedroom freestyling a wall piece. Stay tuned for the steps and final word.

Preparing for the Wackness

ISC (imaginary snow children) is the lovechild of the need to produce art for a Petersburg show in June (i.e. the Wackness) and the compulsion to create fresher ideas. This one is near completion, but not quite there yet. Stay tuned.

The Second Coming
